People who entertain overnight guests often typically have a specific guest room in their homes. The linens are always fresh, there are clean towels in the adjoining bathroom, and a new bar of soap by the sink. Friends may visit for a long weekend, or family members will vacation for a week or two. They all stay because there is plenty of room, and no one is inconvenienced. That is a wonderful set up, but not all homes have that much extra space.
There are still times when friends or family members may require a place to stay. Young nieces or nephews may spend the night while their parents have a long overdue night out. An old friend knocks on the door and has nowhere else to go for the night. The small dinner party lasts into the night and one guest misses the last bus home. There are ways that people can always be ready for that unexpected or rare overnight guest. Having a roll-a-way bed in a closet is handy. It can be stored when not in use, and made quickly when needed. The problem is that they take up a lot of space in a closet, especially when not used often.
A futon is an option because it can be used as a couch most of the time, and only laid flat when someone needs to sleep on it. That would be ideal for the young nephews, but will be uncomfortable for full size adults. The frame is hard, and the mattress is fairly thin. It will do in an emergency, but not as a long term solution. Futons do not make great couches for lounging upon due to less cushioning than a regular couch. A corner sofa bed may be the best option for accommodating rare overnight guests. Setting up the space is as easy as removing the back cushions and laying down a sheet. No other furniture has to be moved, and the room remains in the same order. There are several styles, colors, and materials from which to choose so finding one to suit the space, decor, and budget is not an issue.
